The College of Digital Photography (CODP) has a campus in Saxonwold, Johannesburg and also offers Virtual Courses and Workshops where you can learn online from the comfort of your own home. We specialise in teaching part time and online Photography, Videography, Editing & Art courses.
If you are a business and require a customised course to suit your needs or industry, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 086 11 74686 (PHOTO) for a quote.
No qualification is required to do any of our courses. All of the part time courses, workshops and outings are designed for the enthusiast and hobbyist photographer.
No photographic experience is required to do the following courses:
To do any of the advanced photographic courses you need to complete the FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY course. If you feel you are proficient in photography and would like to move on to an advanced course without doing the Fundamentals course, please contact us on 086 11 74686 (PHOTO) or email@example.com for advice.
If you have a DSLR, Mirrorless or Bridge camera with full manual mode, we recommend you begin with the FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY course.
The Fundamentals course is a part time 5 week course designed to teach you all the basic principles of photography. These will help you take full control of your camera and help you make the correct choices to immediately improve your photography. You are required to complete assignments on the course and go on an early Sunday morning outing after Lesson 4.
The Fundamentals course is also offered as a condensed course during the SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. This 5 lesson school holiday course will run over a 1 week period on a daily basis from 9h30-12h30.
It is also offered as an EXPRESS course, which is identical to the normal course, the only difference being that it runs twice a week instead of once a week (meaning it is completed in 3 weeks instead of 5 weeks).
Please click here for further information on the Fundamentals of Digital Photography course
To do the FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY or any of the advanced courses, you need a Digital SLR, Mirrorless or Bridge camera with full manual mode, and a sturdy tripod. There are a limited number of digital cameras available for hire. If you are unsure if your camera is suitable or if you would like advice on what to buy, please feel free to contact us on 086 11 74686 (PHOTO) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
To do any of the Editing courses, you are required to bring your own laptop with the required software to class. We provide example images used on the course, so you can practice at home.
The Virtual Courses and Workshops allow you to learn photography, videography and editing online from the comfort of your own home. They are also priced at a lower rate than our contact courses. Before a Virtual Course you need to download the Zoom software and we’ll send you a Meeting ID and Password to join the virtual session with a CODP lecturer. Please follow this Step-by-Step Guide if you get stuck.
The courses are all part time and run once a week for 1 to 5 weeks, depending on the course. Most of the courses have a high practical ingredient, where you are required to complete assignments in your own time. Some of the courses have a weekend outing, usually on a Sunday – please check those details on the relevant course information pages.
For most of the courses you will receive digital course notes, accessible from any computer, laptop, phone or tablet via the CODP App. Here you can access a digital version of the course manual, upload the course assignments, access the course schedule and much more!
We also offer a number of exciting photographic outings and workshops – please see the individual offerings for exact details.
